Wipaire Engineering: More Than Meets…

If you look closely at what you get when you put purchase Wipaire Floats for your airplane you will likely see that we make many modifications to your airplane that might not seem to be related to floats. For instance if you purchase a set of 3450 floats for your Cessna 206H you get a brand new prop as part of the float kit. The reason for this sort of modification is that we want to make your airplane a true performer, something that performs well enough to be used as a serious tool, and is more fun to fly as a toy. We often times make these modifications because we were not happy with the result of simply fitting floats under the airplane and we needed to make further refinements to really make a useful seaplane. We often times sell these features as separate products as well. For instance our 2000 lb gross weight increase is included for a nominal fee when you buy a set of 2100 floats for your PA-18, but it is also available for purchase without any floats. Our Engineering Department at Wipaire is what allows us to design and certify not only the floats but all these other modifications as well. Engineering has always been a core competency here at Wipaire and our engineering staff and resources have come a long way since Ben Wiplinger founded the company in 1960. Today we employ more than a dozen people in our engineering department between aerospace & mechanical engineers, CAD designers, technical writer and other technical people that stem from a diverse background. We use the latest software in 3D CAD design and FEA analysis software to help design and improve our products along with the tried and true methods of structural testing and flight-testing using modern data acquisition systems to prove out and certify our designs. Our engineering staff is constantly designing new and exciting products so keep an eye out for announcements!
