Wipaire, Inc. Announces Safety Seminar Schedule and Door Prizes

Wipaire, Inc.

Wipaire, Inc. has announced the schedule and topics for the safety seminar at the Leesburg, Florida facility. “We always look forward to having our neighbors from around the airport and beyond,” commented Bill Pike, general manager of Wipaire’s Leesburg facility. “We welcome pilots and aircraft owners to come visit us, learn some new things and refresh old knowledge, plus have some great barbeque too!”

Event check-in will start at 8:30 am, with a continental breakfast available. Representatives from Wipaire, the Seaplane Pilots Association, the FAASTeam, and Appareo Systems will be on hand for the event to answer questions. The first seminar will be presented at 9:30 by Brian Addis, Senior Flight Instructor with Lake & Air, and recognized seaplane training expert. With over 32,000 flight hours, Brian is an ATP with five type ratings, as well as a CFII. His background includes working as a Designated Pilot Examiner, airline training manager, corporate pilot, college instructor, and, of course, flight instructor. Brian holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology and education and is completing his doctorate in human factors. Brian is well-known in Minnesota and surrounding areas for his safety presentations and brings an understanding of pilot psychology to his seminars. He will be speaking on loss of control, an issue relevant for pilots of both landplanes and seaplanes, a topic the NTSB has placed on its “most wanted” list for three years straight. Wings credit is available for Brian’s presentation.

The next speaker will be Brian Babik, Aviation Territory Manager at Appareo, the makers of Stratus. In addition to working for Fargo, North Dakota-based Appareo, Brian is an active private pilot who based in Charlotte, NC. His presentation, Understanding ADS-B and In/Out Solutions, will help pilots and aircraft owners alike learn more about ADS-B and understand what’s important when choosing the right ADS-B option to comply with the 2020 mandate. Brian will provide tips on how to get the most out of ADS-B information, important features to look for, and in/out solutions. Wings credit is available for Brian’s presentation, which will begin at 10:10 am.

A catered lunch will be served from 11:45-12:30, and the seminars will resume after lunch.

Steve McCaughey, executive director of the Seaplane Pilots Association, will follow lunch with an interactive presentation on utilizing and navigating the Water Landing Directory application. A trial copy will be available for advance download for attendees to try out on their personal devices. The Water Landing Directory features a database of waterways for seaplane operations, in-water fueling locations, a seaplane flight training guide, destination guide, and a calendar of seaplane events. Steve and SPA representatives will be on hand for questions from future or current seaplane pilots. Wings credit is available for Steve’s presentation.

Rock Rockcastle will close out the safety seminar with a presentation on Loss of Control – Inflight (LOC-I). LOC-I was the leading cause of general aviation fatalities in an NTSB study from 2008-2014. Rock’s presentation will offer safety seminar attendees an additional perspective on LOC-I to follow on to Brian Addis’ morning session. Topics will include common errors and areas of caution for pilots. Rock is an ATP and active simulator instructor for the Beechcraft Baron, Cessna 300- and 400-series, and Piper Navajo at Simcom Training Center in Orlando. He is well-known in the Leesburg area for his seminars and has over 15,000 flying hours and is a Gold Seal Master Flight Instructor. Wings credit is available for Rock’s presentation, which will begin at 1:50 pm.

Attendees are welcome to attend all of the seminars or just the ones that interest them. All planning to attend are requested to RSVP at www.wipaire.com/safetyseminar.  Schedules are subject to change; attendees are encouraged to arrive in advance of their seminar. Attendees should check in upon arrival to receive door prize tickets and a bag from Wipaire. Door prizes will be awarded during both the morning and afternoon seminars, and include aircraft supply gift bags from Lake & Air, a seaplane PFD, and giveaway bags featuring items from Wipaire.
