Wipaire Certifies Dual-Pilot Fire Boss

For 6 years Minnesota’s own Wipaire, Inc. has been producing the most highly acclaimed single-pilot fire suppression aircraft in the world. Monday, September 29, 2008, the innovative company certified their long-awaited dual-pilot version of the aircraft. The two place Fire Boss is intended as a trainer and has been certified at a whopping 1600 horsepower provided by a Pratt & Whitney PT6-67F engine, a 250 horsepower increase from original model.

Close on the heels of this accomplishment, Wipaire plans to use this as a launch point for certifying other configurations of the Fire Boss. This includes the 1600 HP engine on the single pilot amphibious and landplane, and the vortex generator array on the dual pilot model without float provisions, lowering the stall speeds 5-8 knots depending on configuration. They plan to certify the single seat Fire Boss with 1600 HP by the end of 2008.

The Fire Boss, equipped with Wipaire’s ruggedly built 10000 model amphibious floats and other performance enhancements, has been key in saving millions of acres of forest and buildings in Spain, Canada and other countries. Already popular due to its ability to utilize small water sources in remote areas for fire suppression, the dual-pilot Fire Boss trainer will make instruction easier and safer for today’s global client.

The hardworking Fire Boss is just one of the innovative enhancements to stock aircraft this company has engineered. Over the years, Wipaire has developed a full line of aircraft floats for all sizes of aircraft from the Piper Cub to the De Havilland Twin Otter as well as over 100 Supplemental Type Certificates for a variety of useful aircraft modifications. In addition, Wipaire has expanded into other areas, including a full service maintenance department, avionics installation and repair, custom and luxury interior installation, and a paint and refinishing facility.
